Contractors & Homebuilders

Are you a contractor or homebuilder? Do clients ask your opinion on flooring selections and cabinet style? Do they want your advice on light fixtures and paint finishes? This is where I come in! Your clients will be confident that they are avoiding costly mistakes and that the space being created for them is both practical and stunning! My late father was a general contractor. Growing up, dinner conversations often revolved around load bearing walls, joists, and impending inspections. To this day, the smell of sawdust is oddly comforting, and the loud sounds of saws and nail guns brings me right back to my childhood. My goal is to make your life easier by assisting your clients in coming up with a clear vision for the end result – and the results are what matters most.

What does hiring a designer mean for you:

  • The multitude of design decisions are placed in my hands, allowing you to do what you do best – focus on executing the scope of work.
  • A final project, from start to finish that is beyond the expectations of your client. A happy client reflects better on you.
  • Satisfied clients mean more referrals.
  • Finished projects with attention to every detail.

Here’s what others are saying about my design work:

“We had the opportunity to meet and work with Jenna on a recent commercial project and the experience was exceptional. Jenna is highly skilled and gifted in her profession. Equally as important, Jenna is truly a kind, caring business owner who wants the absolute best for her clients–a philosophy in business that is priceless!  As a Builder, we look forward to the opportunity to work with Jenna on future projects.  Whether you are a homeowner, business owner or a contractor in need of sound guidance and expertise for your clients, look no further! You will be in good hands with Jenna”

You may recall the project I completed last fall, the McComas Celebration of Life Center. This wonderful family owns several locations throughout the county and I recently have been contracted to give an update to their Bel Air location.

Here’s a short clip of the ribbon cutting ceremony, highlighting my work on the previous project. What an honor, not only to be recognized, but trusted with the design. My heart is full of gratitude!

Get to know your designer day 4 I spent years desi Get to know your designer day 4
I spent years designing, but now decided to create a business. I was confident in my talent & skill but having a talent & building a successful business are 2 different things. I tackled this like I do everything in life, head-on, looking it straight in the eye.

At this time I began to endure some heartbreak in my personal life. My father passed away from mesothelioma and this loss left such a void in my family. He was the constant steady. Our North star that guided our way back home. The thread that sewed the fabric of our family together. This loss left cracks in our foundation & the walls began to crumble. I was left with tremendous loss, burden & heartbreak.

For the sake of my sanity, I threw myself into work. I immersed myself in design. I was like a sponge soaking up everything I could get my hands on. I taught myself design software, learned to floorplan, established relationships with furniture retailers and made a website. I worked with business coaches to establish services, pricing & procedures. I worked 14+ hour days for over 2 years. No exaggeration. If I worked my mind was busy and if my mind was busy I didn’t have to feel and I didn’t want to feel. Work saved me. My business my passion my creativity saved me.

My business was born out of this pain. I found purpose. I learned 10 years of business practices in just over 2. I am convinced that I would not be as successful had I not gone through this. Working with my clients slowly began to heal me. I found a way to channel heartbreak into creativity and pain into purpose. I was feeding my soul.

During the most difficult times I wanted comfort and belonging. Isn’t that what our home should be? Our soft place to land at the end of the day. A place to be you and know you will be loved anyway. A place where you belong. My situation was so personal & will leave a permanent scar. One of those raised, bumpy ones that remains tender & every time you hit it you’re reminded of the injury. Everybody’s got something & this is my “thing.” Someone much wiser than me once said “Let what you go through, grow you.” Sometimes the most beautiful things grow in the darkest of places.
“Get to know your designer” day 3. Yesterday I “Get to know your designer” day 3.
Yesterday I left off with my education, mentioning that my husband and I along with our 3 kids & 2 dogs have moved 9x in 18 years. We lived in homes, completed massive renovations, sold, bought, repeat, repeat, repeat... This is when I started honing my design skills (unbeknownst to me.) Creativity is in my blood. I come from a long line of talented souls!
I walk into a home and begin talking through which walls can come down and how to reconfigure the floorplan to increase its functionality. It took me a long time to realize that everyones brain doesn’t work this way. I hate to sound boastful, but this comes so naturally to me. I don’t think I could “turn it off” if I tried. I designed so many of my own homes-it was like having a brand new 2500+ sq. ft. playground every couple years! Looking back, this truly was the best way to gain an understanding of the principles of design. Sort of like living in a foreign country to learn that language. Sort of...😂
I had the freedom to push boundaries, learn from mistakes and celebrate my design wins! Over & over & over.
Others started to notice. Not just family and friends, but neighbors would call & ask, “Can I bring my husband & my mom over to see your home?” Over the years we’ve worked with many different realtors. Regardless of the market, we were told, “This house is going to be easy to sell. It looks like a model.” On more than one occasion I’ve been contacted by a buyers agent asking for the name of the interior designer. I was giddy with excitement each time I answered, “Me. I am the designer. Me me me!!”
At this point, my children were getting older. It was time to feed my soul. I often joke, that if a few days go by and I haven’t had the opportunity to do something creative, I develop an eye twitch!
In all of the spaces pictured above, I’ve included the before picture. The “after” is what I see immediately in my head. It’s just how my brain works!

Tomorrow I’ll get into all the nitty-gritty details of how I started Jenna Nicole Interiors. Preview-My business was born out of tremendous personal pain. Sometimes the most beautiful things grow in the darkest of places.
“Get to know your designer” day 2. I graduate “Get to know your designer” day 2.
I graduated from Salisbury University with a Bachelors of Science in elementary education. I completed my student teaching in Auckland New Zealand, where I lived for 3 months. Returning to the states, I got a job teaching 3rd grade and went on to teach 1st, 5th and preschool. Then spent several years as the Assistant Director of a private school.
By now, I had 3 young children & my husband began to climb the corporate ladder. Climbing said ladder came with moving quite a bit. While living in Florida, I went back to school studying naturopathic health and nutrition which involved extensive training in biomedicine. All things alternative health have always fascinated me! I’ve been known to get stuck in a “rabbit hole” for days researching and reading- for fun! I was trained by duel certified physicians from Europe who were naturopathic physicians and also traditional Western medicine trained MD’s. I was so intrigued by their wealth of knowledge! I’m a certified nutrition consultant trained to examine patients diets, take medical histories, listen to & observe symptoms to make recommendations regarding diet and supplements. While completing my clinicals, I would Skype to review my findings with my professor who was in Germany!
In the US there are many restrictions on how you can use an education like this. It depends on which state you live in. I moved from Florida back to Maryland which isn’t quite as friendly to this health field. The restrictions on what I could do didn’t interest me. Make no mistake-it’s still a passion of mine and something I use to keep myself and my family healthy. If my kids start to sniffle, I begin mixing up concoctions of #herbs and rubbing them down with #essentialoils!
I am very much an even mix of a left & right brain thinker. You can often find me reading medical journals in the morning and styling “bad ass bookshelves” in the afternoon.
I almost forgot-there was a short 9 months somewhere in here, where I also became a licensed cosmetologist.
So where does interior design fit into this? I’m getting there... stay tuned!
I’m calling the next few posts “get to know yo I’m calling the next few posts “get to know your designer.” If you don’t know me that well-I hate the spotlight & this is quite a bit out of my comfort zone but here goes.
I grew up on the east end of Long Island New York surrounded by the Long Island Sound, the Atlantic Ocean and tons of farmland. I do not qualify as a city girl, but make no mistake I am still a New Yorker! My hometown was so small it only had one traffic light! I am the youngest of 4 & the only girl.
Summer weekends often involved excursions on my parents boat. My dad would find a beach we could have to ourselves. He would carry me from the boat to the beach over his head so my feet didn’t touch the water. I hated when my feet got wet and sand stuck to them. I was a bit of a princess! Is anyone surprised?
Many of my childhood memories involve the sound of crashing waves, the smell of salty air & the feeling of sand between my toes.
My hometown was not a vacation destination. You won’t find blinking lights, ferris wheels or boardwalk fries. Beautiful wineries, farm-stands full of fresh local produce and the occasional celebrity heading out to the Hamptons was the norm. To this day, there is no place on earth that I feel more at peace than on a beach-a quiet one! It truly is my happy place. A place where the rest of the world seems to disappear and I’m 6 years old again.
Growing up in this tiny town, I couldn’t wait to leave it and explore the world. That’s exactly what I did at 18 years old. Since then I’ve learned that, home....is the place that helped shape and mold me into the adult I’ve become. Maybe it’s because I learned so many life lessons there. Maybe it’s because it’s a piece of my history. Maybe it’s because a part of my heart will always live there.
I look back now & long for the days when my life resembled living in an episode of the TV show Cheers-minus the bar! “Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.”
There’s comfort in belonging and knowing that, “They’re always glad you came.” That’s home to me. Maybe that’s why I love creating a home for my clients. I never underestimate the importance & the comfort of “home.”
